Like any other Church institution that is keeping a low tone, half-mast and mourning the fallen shepherd, Missionary Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church-MSMMC are also observing the sombre mourning mood and praying for the repose of his soul in eternal bliss.  Pope Francis whose pontificate was so vibrant in the eleven years of service (2013-2024) will be remembered for identifying with and reaching out to the marginalized, minority and vulnerable members of the society.

As fellow missionaries, the legacy Pope Francis left is immense. Born on December 17, 1936, the resilient Holy Father breathed his last on April 21, 2025 after 88 years. Today opportunities of leisure are at the door steps but Pope Francis –RIP chose the way of service up to the last moments, when he bothered to visit the prisoners on his wheel chair and took a moment to greet the congregation at St. Peter’s square besides several apostolic visits. He sacrificed at the expense of his ill health like Jesus, who emptied himself for others.

He chooses to rest under the shelter of Mother Mary with seven other Popes at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. In his simplicity, Barbara Serra of Sky News writes, “While previous popes have been entombed in three coffins nestled inside each other, made of cypress, zinc and elm, Francis has asked to be buried in a single wooden coffin.”

Simple lifestyle is one of Laudato si goals. With the spirit of the world that offers lavishness, plenty, pleasure and throw-away culture, at the expense of the poor and impoverished, consecrated persons are constantly called to create the balance between the rich and the poor. Pope Francis has shown the way.

As you will forever leave the world on Saturday, may the Angels welcome you with a crown you deserve for the service well rendered and usher you to the bosom of   Abraham of our father in faith. May the Precious Blood of Jesus cleanse and purify your soul to meet the heavenly demands, Amen.

Rest in eternal peace Pope Francis, the Great Advocate for social justice.
